You may call me Citizen Kane. I am well on my way to running my own publishing empire. The wheels are turning, the mold has been set, and the dye...cast. Much like Kane, I've had to start off in lowly positions. Filing, sweeping, clipping toenails, flogging, snogging, and blogging.
Yes, its been a long rough road indeed.
I've decided to cut out the rest of the hassle and so-called "years of patience" required to build an empire. My Empire will be built on blood, sweat and British Teas from the Coffee Bean. I've just become CEO of a publishing company here in Shanghai. They had approximately 500 resumes to choose from, and over 299 of them were experienced in leading magazines and editing. But they were not me, so they were not hired.
When Travel Logs Shanghai saw my resume they couldn't help but put me in direct control of all operations. I believe it was the combination of experience. Somehow, and by accident, I have discovered the perfect formula and combination of work experience. I call my resume "The Shanghai Surprise." Computers often melt upon opening an attachment containing my resume. Though, that's because of the imbedded virus I suppose.
I'm a happy camper. I take my position of CEO very seriously. Right now, as we speak, at this very moment, and currently I am working very hard on my plans for world publishing domination from the comfort of the Coffee Bean. I left my pet turtle in charge of the daily operation at the office. Mertle keeps his cool even when those ridiculous freelancers are breathing down his neck.
In other news, I got a job as editor at a Shanghai Travel Mag. :) That much is true, and I'm extremely happy. It is a great position with fantastic potential for growth. So what this means is that I'll be in Shanghai for AT LEAST another year, and then who knows after that. If things work out with this position it could take me a couple different places. I'm crossing my fingers!
So there you have it, Expat Boy is staying in Shanghai. I will be coming home to visit in late January to Early Feb. Around there sometime. I need to figure out my visa situation and the dates, but when I do I'll post em. I'd love to see everybody again.
Everything else has been good since my last update. I've been teaching adults a couple times a week and generally enjoying myself. Though, I was getting a bit stressed trying to figure out what career and life road I was going to travel down. Now that it feels like I have it figured out, I feel fairly content in many ways.
I'm also currently seeing a wonderful French girl. Well, French/American, but she's mostly French.
Had my first Thanksgiving away from home in a diner with some friends. Was a good time and the food was actually pretty damn good. Tasted almost like home, or at least what I remember home food to be like. God I miss home cookin. Soon enough!
This will also be my first xmas away. But I'm looking forward to being with friends and making the best of it. I miss my family and will share the holiday with them as best I can. I will also fill Christmas with promises of a visit home soon.
